During last Thursday’s NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected shooting guard O.J. Mayo of USC with the third pick, and the Memphis Grizzlies took UCLA forward/center Kevin Love with the fifth pick. The teams then swapped the players, with the T-wolves also getting Mike Miller in the deal. Unfortunately, that trade ruined what [...]

In this week’s mega-decision, Heller Exxon v. Boumediene, Louisiana, the Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment guarantees detainees at Guantanamo Bay the right to sue child rapists for limited punitive damages. Liberals/conservatives decry/hail the decision as a major success/set-back. The ACLU/NRA/NAMBLA released a statement asserting that the court today protected/trampled on fundamental [...]

It’s Thursday, which means an update on the VP race. Over the last week, Obama has disappointed some in his decision to skip out of public financing after promising to sit down with McCain and work out how to do it. While I agree with the decision, he shouldn’t have reiterated his promise [...]

Sonny Landham, who played the Native American commando, “Billy,” in the 1987 classic Predator is running for Senate in Kentucky as a Libertarian. As someone who once watched Predator three times in one night*, I find this incredibly f’in cool. Landham is now the third star from that film to run for [...]

I promised an update whenever the polling averages change significantly on RealClearPolitics. Well, since Sunday a few new polls have come out and shifted Michigan (sounds right) and Indiana (highly doubtful*) from from McCain to Obama. This gives Obama a winning electoral margin of 317-221 (270 are needed to win). In a [...]

Based on the polling averages on Real Clear Politics, if the election were held today, Barack Obama would win by a narrow but comfortable margin in the electoral college, 289-249. 270 electoral votes are required.
Notes:
I have given a state to whomever is ahead in the polling average, regardless of how small the lead.
Play [...]

Funny send-up of the Obama song “Yes We Can” by Will.i.am. You can see the original here.
P.S. McCain’s speech on the night Obama clinched the nomination was disastrous. Right now, the perception is that his campaign is run in the negative. It’s down. “Like hope, but [...]

Mike Myers’ new movie, “The Love Guru,” opens this week, and reviewers agree that it’s unfunny and painful to sit through. Many reviews are downright antagonistic; A.O. Scott of the N.Y. Times called it “anti-funny.” From the trailer alone, it looks like the humor is more tone-deaf than deft. For my [...]

Yesterday, Barack Obama became the first major candidate to opt out of public funding for a general election. Several have done so for primaries. Taking the public financing would have restricted Obama’s spending to about $84 million after the Convention. McCain is taking the money.
The problem is that the parties and 527 [...]

If you were only paying attention to the NBA Finals or the Euroleague Football tournament this last week, then you missed some developments in the Democratic water-cooler game of “pick the VP.” Ted Strickland, the Governor of Ohio and a big Hillary backer, unambiguously took himself out of the running with a Sherman-esque “I [...]
